Another Era Ends!

The days of Skype being ad-free are drawing to a close. Towards that end, it’ll be interesting to see the impact that this will have on countless users who have grown accustomed to making ‘net-based calls without advertising therein (Skype users who have paid for credit will be exempt) and just how intrusive, pervasive and annoying this is becoming on such mediums as YouTube (and, now, obviously Skype).

Fragmentation X.O?

For all that their major competitor gets criticized for OS fragmentation is Apple going the same route?

It’s Alright!

‘Little Sun’ looks to be another viable alternative for providing a safe and reliable source of lighting in the Developing World.

A Fractured OS!

If the degree that Android users have a different OS on their handset is any indication (embarrassment aside) Google has got a major issue on their hands regarding just how fragmented their market is from end-users to manufacturers to (most importantly) application developers, etc. (and how best to unify them whereas the vast majority is updated and running on their latest OS).

Forcing Change.

Redmond’s newest and (of course) ‘best’ OS Windows 8 is coming. Yes; like most end-users and/or IT Administrators, etc. the universal response is usually: what a hassle and/or the software that I’m using (aside from Windows) no longer works, etc. Nevertheless, change is coming (essentially at Microsoft’s choosing within the PC realm) which begs the question: Isn’t it time countless end-users / IT departments seriously consider just bailing on the PC all-together? Granted, that (in all probability) sounds like a ringing endorsement for another (very famous) technology firm’s products but it’s not as much as stating that the typewriter once died out (as did the Walkman, etc.) perhaps it is time that the PC did too?

A Little Slow…

The hacking of LinkedIn (and the result of 6.5 million passwords being compromised) demonstrates a number of pressing issues including: why the firm was so slow to respond; how best to protect any given end-users’ accounts / data; how the trend of hacking continues to increase in frequency and sophistication; and, the importance of changing passwords regularly / not using the same one across multiple websites, etc. (amongst other considerations too numerous to detail herein) especially given that last.fm looks to been hacked too (oh and then there’s eHarmony… add that website to the list…)

It’s Official.

Count LinkedIn now as the latest high-profile entity that’s seen their end-user’s data compromised. Given the frequency of this issue it will (unfortunately) most likely not be long before another such data breech is reported (which essentially s*cks).

A Whole New Web(?)

Today marks the launch (okay, turning on) of IPv6 which is a global shift towards a coordinated mass adoption of longer IP addresses (with LOTS of room for GROWTH) – “340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses, to be exact.”

‘Cyber-nage’

With the story of Flame still unfolding the level of intrigue; sophistication and espionage is increasingly looking like a case of ‘art imitating life’ in the level of complexity; planning; methodology and duplicity, etc. therein.

They’ve Got Issues.

Tim Cook’s statement: “The more you look at a tablet as a PC, the more the baggage from the past affects the product” could be interpreted many ways (or in just one way for that matter) including as a shot at their long-time rival up in Redmond (and all of the ‘baggage’ that he sees them carrying over into the post-PC era).
