We Be Jamming!

Holy Drop-zone! Apparently America’s newest Superhero is a mild-mannered Bus Driver (by day…) who has given new meaning to the term, ‘signal jamming’ to such a degree that the FCC chimed in… What’s next for Gotham City???

Buzz Cutting.

If the enclosed report is correct (for that matter even if it were only partially correct) Apple’s juggernaut looks to have Redmond concerned… putting it very mildly… (aside from getting caught flat-footed within the Smartphone / Tablet space period) regarding their major cash cow: Windows.

Everywhere You’re Not.

Google’s new privacy laws essentially equate to the firm tracking your every move…

Congrats!

Launched in 2008 (seemingly an eternity ago by today’s standards) Apple’s App Store hit their 25th Billion download today (as phenomenal as this figure is it clearly would not have been accomplished without employing the most impressive crowd-sourcing effort until this point in history!)

To illustrate: there are 550,000 in-store apps; 248,000 registered iOS developers and over $4 Billion paid to them in royalties (and counting)… so, it should come as no surprise that the firm has set such an unprecedented feat. Well done!

Tongue-tied!

With all due respect; while on one hand it seems paradoxical that Japan would create a device to cause people to cease speaking… on the other hand, it also doesn’t seem that far-fetched. Whatever the case may be, said invention could go a long way towards mandating (perhaps enforcing is a more appropriate term) people focusing on their studies in a library for example (amongst other possible applications…)

Brainiacs…

The UK has launched a public consultation on the ethics of technology that enhances brain function (and the application of said medium on humans).

The positive-side of this initiative is (hopefully) generating greater public interest within this field (and further adopting it towards medicinal applications) . Conversely, the downside of this campaign is that the General Public is often reticent toward adopting change (particularly when it comes to the area of medical ethics and how emotions and rational are generally not compatible around ‘hot-button’ issues).

Do NOT Disturb?

In the midst of an on-going stream of privacy issues (and the seemingly lack of respect from / of a number of tech firms to actually respect them… although end-users are also often times lax regarding the level of access that they authorize any given app to have) it looks like Apple can now be added to the growing list of those who are providing a ‘little more than a just service…’

Meanwhile…

Networking’s importance cannot be understated… which as obvious as said point is it’s becoming increasingly vital due to the proliferation of Smartphones and Tablets… and, in many of the OECD nations (e.g., America) lines speeds are still woefully lacking parity with their counterparts in many developed Asian nations…

From Handshake To Handset.

One year to the day; Nokia and Microsoft have come full-circle (from a handshake to a handset). The question now is: does handshake to handset equal hard cash (aside from marketshare / relevance / innovation / mass adoption, etc?)

Guilt By Association.

Just the mere report of Facebook and a lack of respecting end-user’s privacy (usually) elicits a negative vibe (aside from the bad PR) as this firm’s track-record is any but stellar (putting it mildly) regarding this issue / matter.
