According to Google… the next iPad Killer is six months away… A lot can happen between now and that time (including the hype from said statement dying down and/or not being matched).

Granted, it’s only conjecture (certainly at this point) however, the University of California, Berkeley’s choice of Google Apps over Office 365 is a major-win for these increasingly bitter rivals (within this space). In fact, Cal’s selection could be a harbinger for Redmond moving forward (with converting / winning business within the Cloud-computing space).

Wishing all a safe; healthy and prosperous Holiday season!
An American domain hosting service was given 21,000 Christmas presents… well, if you call canceling their service in an apparent protest of the (controversial) Stop Online Piracy Act (and what is obviously a by-product of their botched P.R. in support of said act!)

Volkswagen’s move to deactivate email access for their off-duty German workforce is the second major initiative (after Deutsche Telekom’s landmark policy was introduced last year) by a major OECD-nation / based firm. Who knows; perhaps the rest of the Fortune 500 will adopt this approach too?

It’s all about being open, right? A walled-garden isn’t for me and/or those that are cool, got it? A wild free-for-all is a better approach than an ever-increasingly draconian framework; exactly!
Not so fast respond the naysayers as a ‘test’ (malware) application was built to demonstrate just how vulnerable this OS is to malware attacks (of which it has been hit with an on-going wave of such over the past few months)…

In light of Russia’s ascent to the WTO; Apple’s impressive App Store revenue stream; Google reporting that 700K Android-powered devices are being activated per day… Let’s pause for a moment to mark yet another milestone in US-China relations (as the very group that lobbied on behalf of the PRC to join the WTO was reportedly hacked by a rogue group in the Mainland). It’s just another day in geo-politics, right? Perhaps the American Chamber of Commerce needs to be careful what they wish for?

Given ‘Big Blues’ influence on technology over the past 100 years it’s obvious to say that the firm has been instrumental in the development and direction of this field. That said; their ‘5 in 5’ predictions have merit; yet, whether they come true or not… only time will tell, right? Nevertheless, if their ‘crystal-ball’ is accurate, IBM looks to be vital at least in the early stages of challenging to reach their 200-year milestone.
1) Mind-reading Gadgets: These don’t seem that far-fetched (as bioinformatics already exist within toys by Mattel for example).
2) Biometrics: Password elimination is also not so far-off as this technology is already used for military applications.
3) Kinetic-energy: This makes absolute sense and it seems as though it’ll be an area of continued research / focus for commercialization.
4) The Mobile Revolution: No real surprise here as mobility / smartphones / tablets (especially with the further growth of nations such as China and/or India, etc.) should easily surpass the PC Revolution (by orders of magnitude?)
5) Junk-mail Extinction: 4 out 5 isn’t so bad, right? Countless in-boxes the world over would greatly benefit from this becoming a realty!
Here’s to the future; cheers!

Having essentially ‘rescued’ the Recording Industry (perhaps taken control of their distribution channel is a better way to frame it) Apple has set their aim on / towards TV. And, why not? Given their success as a device company (and, by extension, a content provider) this long-rumored ambition makes sense…

PS: Thanks to ‘The Boss’ for borrowing his idea for a title.
If you’ve never heard of ‘Cloud Valley’ you are most likely not be alone. Nevertheless, in their pursuit of (computing) dominance the Chinese are not going to idly allow the ‘cloud’ to pass them by.
