1984, Revisited?

In perhaps a surreal homage to Apple’s now infamous 1984 ad, one can’t help but wonder if the unwashed masses (e.g., consumers) have now become what the company railed against back-in-the-day? If the roughly 300 million global visitors to Apple stores within the last 10 months – alone – are any indication a very good case could be made that this is what’s happened (aside from the obvious point that the company does make excellent products).

Trade Secrets…

And, airing dirty laundry between corporate rivals make for lots of media coverage (as evidenced in the on-going legal battle between Apple and Samsung). Including the S. Korean firm’s sense of envy / inferiority regarding the iPhone (no surprise considering the degree that Korean firms copy… albeit they also deny doing such…)

Three’s The Magic Number.

Redmond is playing to produce 3 million plus Surface Tablets as a part of the debut of this product. Now, whether or not they’ll be able to sell that many is anyone’s best guess?

Global Corporate Espionage.

In the aftermath of the reported virus that hit Iran’s Nuclear Complex, it appears that the Oil Industry might be the next target (as per a breaking story from Saudi Arabia)… Long story short, unfortunately, this trend looks to be increasing as it could also be the next iteration of the post-Cold War-era devolving / morphing into the Code War

The Magnificent Seven?

If the rumor-mill is correct, Apple looks to be releasing an iPad Mini in September (along with the next generation iPhone and iOS 6). Following the Mac OS X Mountain Lion tighter-integration iCloud-centric release… whenever their latest hardware updates debut, they will clearly be focused on new features, functionality and ever-tighter control of the end-to-end computing experience (akin to what the firm once used to rail against Microsoft about!)

The Future’s Now…

The Gates Foundation is working on reinventing the future of sanitation and access to a functional toilet for the roughly 40% of the Earth’s population that lacks one of modern societies’ (perhaps) most, overlooked attributes. What a relief (no pun intended!)

All Still Isn’t Well…

The post-merger honeymoon (if there actually was one) was clearly short-lived due to the announcement of 4,000 job cuts today (as Motorola still struggles from years of inept growth, management and viable product releases).

Hopefully, by shifting their focus away from the lower-end of the mobile phone market, concentrating their R&D on fewer hardware efforts; and, further embedding Android as an OS, this once-proud leader / high-flyer will be able to make a (sustained) viable comeback.

Rebirth!

In sum, it is great to see that Video Arcades (yes, those places that seemingly went the way of the late 1980’s) are making a comeback in America!?
